STARTING SEQUENCE

The starting sequence follows the Blue Fleet handicapped system. “SPRINT RACE” is a race once around the marks, two races per day on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. September includes racing only on Labor Day weekend. Races noted as ”FULL RACE” indicate racing is twice around the marks, one race.

A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE STARTING SEQUENCE

The course is posted on the side of the Club’s pontoon boat. If the wind changes, the course may be changed for the second race. Heavy wind sequence is to be sailed if a yellow flag is posted on the boat. The yellow flag also means life jackets MUST be worn.

One minute before the starting sequence begins, an Oogah horn will sound. Be ready to start your watch with the next horn, the U-Start will automatically raise flags based on the strength of the wind and whether we are sailing a sprint race or a full race. (See above on this page for times).

If two horns are sounded before the race, there is a postponement.

If two horns are sounded during the race, drop the last mark. Three horns during the race mean the race is canceled.

After starting a race, you may not sail through the start/finish line again in any direction until you finish.
